New World (Dream Beast)

Zoojoo transports viewers into a fantastical, biomorphic world, where wild beasts roam in surreal landscapes. The painting evokes an era before photography, when artists journeyed across continents to capture foreign flora and fauna with brush and pen. But instead of bringing back mere reflections of reality, Zoojoo delves into the depths of his imagination, where strange creatures and hybrid forms emerge. His vision recalls the lithographs once used for mechanical reproductions, yet this world is entirely of his own creation—a wilderness born not of uncharted lands but of the artist's mind.

Zhang Ju (b. 1974), aka Zoojoo, a printmaker, ink painter, and web3 pathfinder, who constantly tries to find forms for the extraordinary world in his head, using mediums from lithograph to ethereum and everything in between. 

He holds a BFA in Contemporary Ink Painting and an MFA in Printmaking from the China Academy of Art, and lives and works in Shanghai.
