ABOUT

A riprap, as the poet Gary Snyder tells us, is a cobble of stones laid on rocks to make a trail in mountains, which are too vast and virtually inaccessible otherwise. By following the rip and the rap of the trail, one could disappear into nature, and discover its true beauty.

The systematic yet chaotic laying down of rocks for a path of scenery seems a strange yet apt metaphor for art. The truth of oneself, like a mountain, is often too vague and beyond reach, unless one builds a trail of self-discovery and revelation made of stones from an artistic ore. One must lay down these footings, the riprap of things, so that another might see the interior of one’s world.

Riprap Art Club is a gathering place on this trail. It is run by Leo Yuan, a nature lover, a curator of views, a lookout for creative fires, a guide in a forest of art. Saddle up and join the club, if you also feel like going on a hike in the mountains.
